Introduction
If you or a loved one have decided to seek treatment to overcome addiction, you may have started researching the best rehab options near you. While learning about different rehabs and treatment models, you have likely noticed there are several levels of care to choose from. Deciding which option best suits your needs can be challenging.
The level of care that will best help you on your journey to overcome addiction depends on various factors. If you struggle with an addiction to specific substances such as (alcohol, opioids, or benzodiazepines), or if you have completed treatment before and experienced relapse, it is often better to seek addiction treatment at an inpatient residential treatment center. In the inpatient setting, you will have access to 24/7 care and support. Also, the residential setting offers extensive detox support and monitoring.
If you struggle with a mild addiction or have recently completed a residential addiction treatment program but are not yet ready to be “on your own,” an outpatient treatment program may be the best fit for your needs. If you are motivated to seek addiction treatment, but obligations at home such as work, education, or family hinder your ability to be away from home, outpatient rehab in Indiana can offer the essential flexibility you need to ensure you receive the help you need to overcome addiction successfully.
What’s the Difference Between Inpatient & Outpatient?
There is an unfortunate misconception surrounding outpatient addiction treatment programs. When people think of treatment that occurs outside the residential treatment environment, it is often viewed as “less” of a program than what a patient would receive if they were treated at an inpatient addiction treatment facility. Inpatient and outpatient programs both strive to provide and focus equally on providing the necessary support and guidance you need to overcome addiction. Both use comprehensive, evidence-based treatment models to ensure you have the tools you need to attain and maintain sobriety.
Outpatient addiction treatment programs allow you to live at home throughout the duration of your treatment. As part of an outpatient program, you will not receive some of the benefits provided in the residential setting, such as housing, meals, and 24/7 medical care and support. The structure of an outpatient program at Impact Wellness allows you to continue actively participating in your regular routine while working towards sobriety. In the inpatient setting, you would attend therapy during the day, every day of the week. At an outpatient treatment program, you will attend therapy on a set schedule, often a few days per week for a few hours each day. The number of hours and overall duration of your treatment program will depend on your specific treatment needs and goals.
Outpatient programs are structured around your specific needs. The flexibility in structure allows you to choose when it is most convenient to attend therapy sessions. Often, counseling and group therapy sessions are held in the evenings to ensure everyone can attend. Because of the less intensive nature of an outpatient treatment program, it may take longer to achieve your treatment goals when compared to a residential or intensive outpatient program.
Intensive outpatient programs or IOPs fall between inpatient residential programs and outpatient programs. The primary difference between a standard outpatient program and an intensive outpatient program is the required amount of time dedicated to treatment-related activities each week. Many IOP programs require twelve or more hours of therapy each week. This is often broken up into multiple groups and individual therapy sessions throughout the week. Intensive programs generally require a more substantial time commitment than would be found in a traditional outpatient program.
An intensive outpatient program in the Midwest is an excellent option if you need a higher level of care than available in an outpatient program but do not need continuous or 24/7 care provided in a residential program. Many addicts new to recovery use intensive outpatient programs as an intermediate step between a more intensive residential treatment setting and the aftercare or a fully independent living arrangement.
The Benefits of Our Outpatient Drug Rehabs in the Midwest
There are many benefits to outpatient drug rehab in the Midwest. If you have already completed a residential program but are not ready to transition to an independent living arrangement, an outpatient program could help you receive the support and guidance you need to get sober. Outpatient programs are often a good fit for those who struggle with a mild addiction or whom an inpatient program is difficult due to family, work, or personal obligations.
At our outpatient rehab in Ohio, you receive the same evidence-based care provided in a residential program but with the freedom and flexibility of an outpatient treatment structure. As part of an outpatient program, you will work with your treatment team to design a treatment plan and therapy schedule that allows you to start and complete addiction treatment without having to leave your family and day-to-day responsibilities behind.
Another benefit to outpatient care is seamless integration into our aftercare and alumni programs. Aftercare involves a variety of ongoing medical treatment and continuous addiction therapy. The outpatient program at Impact Wellness offers a smooth transition from ongoing, regular addiction treatment to follow-up maintenance treatment provided in aftercare. Because you remain at home and in your community while completing an outpatient treatment program, you learn how to integrate what you’ve learned in treatment into your day-to-day life from the very beginning of your treatment program. This means you are practicing vital coping and relapse prevention skills throughout your treatment, so when faced with a triggering event in the future, you are prepared to manage it in a safe and healthy way.

Our Outpatient Rehabs in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky
Our outpatient rehab programs in the Midwest offer a safe and supported environment where you can seek addiction treatment, heal, and achieve sobriety. While participating in our outpatient program, you will attend between one and three group sessions each week and meet with your therapist in a one-to-one setting at least once each week. During therapy, you will work with your treatment team and peers within the group to learn, reinforce and practice coping skills, relapse prevention skills, and ways to safely manage addiction triggers. To ensure anyone can attend therapy based on their schedule needs, our group sessions are available six days per week to accommodate work, academic, or family responsibilities.
We also encourage all our participants and alumni to maintain involvement with a 12-step fellowship and begin to develop and pursue independence. As part of a peer support group such as a 12-step group, you can provide and receive support from those who share a similar journey. Because many peer support groups have participants in all stages of recovery, they can provide insight, support, and most importantly, an ear when you have fears, worries, or concerns about your sobriety and recovery. Maintaining ongoing involvement with peer groups and alumni activities also offers a group of sober, like-minded peers you can spend time with. Many peer support groups host and plan sober activities such as hikes, trips, or weekly get-togethers. A strong sober support community can be extremely helpful during the early days of recovery when triggers are particularly challenging to manage.
